This is Fatima- Newspaper Article The book “The Scarlet Letter” is based on one of the biggest issues in today’s society doing a sin. It talks about doing sin and facing the consequences afterward. Everyone makes a sin whether it is a big sin or a small. Many people commit sins and do not realize it. Sometimes people commit the sin and ask for forgiveness to the person who they have hurt or ask for forgiveness from God. In the book the sin that the main character Hester Prynne has done is adultery. Adultery is one of the biggest sin an individual can do. If an individual has committed adultery then they can go to jail for almost their whole life. In this case the same thing happened with Hester. Hester had committed adultery and she was in prison for a long time, and with Hester was her daughter Pearl, who is the signature of the sin. After, Hester had come out of jail she had to wear the letter “A” on her chest which was seen by everyone. Hester never hid her face because of the letter on her chest she walked around the community as herself. Hester did this because she accepted her sin that she had done. The whole community talked about her but never did she yell at anyone or tell people to stop staring at her. Hester had to face two consequences wearing the letter which is known as the “scarlet letter” and spending most of her life in jail with her daughter. The second person who is involved with adultery is Mr. Arthur Dimmesdale. Mr. Arthur Dimmesdale is a priest and he was the one who broke one of the most important rules- committing adultery. Dimmesdale was not sent to jail but he had gotten sick. Dimmesdale sickness was not the regular flu, or the regular cold, his sickness was a unique. The physician who took care of Dimmesdale is Roger Chillingworth. He tried many remedies but nothing worked. Then later the physician finds out that his sickness was guilt. Dimmesdale felt really guilty about what he had done with Hester and he had to tell someone. Dimmesdale had to do a sermon on sin. He was not able to read the sermon properly because being a priest means doing everything that you tell people to do. Instead Dimmesdale did not do that. He broke that commandment. After the sermon he saw Hester and Pearl and he accepted his sin in front of Hester. Dimmesdale was in guilt almost all his life. This book proves that committing a sin comes with facing consequences. Another important sin that is very common in this world is yelling a tour parents. That is another major sin, many people do not understand what they did when they yelled at their parents, but people are so ashamed that they cannot even face their parents. For every sin made ask forgiveness and that way nobody has to live in guilt and everyone is happy.
